We’re all in need of some extra endorphins and stress relief and one of the best providers of this is physical movement, and not just in the bedroom.

Many significant studies have found that regular exercise can have a positive effect on mental health issues including depression and anxiety, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise to us. How can something that improves your physical appearance, makes you feel stronger and healthier and improves self esteem NOT have a positive impact on your mental health?

Fear manifestations about health are now prevalent in society as we become increasingly aware of disease and sickness and their correlations with lifestyle. Leading healthy lifestyles and incorporating regular exercise can help to put our minds at ease knowing we’re giving ourselves the best chances at beating illness but the mental benefits of exercise far exceed this.

Along with the release of endorphins and serotonin that exercise facilitates, it also creates feelings of strength and empowerment as your body and mind work in synchronicity to do things you weren’t aware you could. Every new personal best, every limit you push in your workouts comes with feelings of pride and endurement, improving your happiness in a positive way. The mental benefits of exercise don’t stop at mood and emotions, they extend to brain and memory function as well. Exercise increases blood flow to the brain and this could be responsible for the increased thought clarity felt after exercise. Stronger connections between the brains nerve cells can result from exercise and be responsible for better memory function and a stronger ability in the brain to protect against illness and injury.

But perhaps the greatest benefit of exercise is its capacity to create new communities and connections between people, warding off feelings of isolation and depression.
Through firmness clubs and sporting teams people connect all with similar goals in common: to feel healthier, stronger and happier.

So the next time you’re feeling down or anxiety is getting the best of you, run it out, kick the crap out of some padded bags or better yet, come and join the EC fit squad. It’s the squad that dreams are made of.
